G’Day! My name is Cayla Canney, and I studied with 91°µÍø Sydney for Blocks I and II in Sydney Australia and I truly could not have had a better experience. Studying abroad seemed completely out of the picture, but 91°µÍø supported my dreams and provided me several opportunities that made studying in Sydney possible! I chose Sydney because having come from Seattle, Washington, where winters can be rainy, dark, and cold, I needed a change in scenery. What better place to go than Australia for my winter quarter where I could spend my time on the beach! On of the biggest fears I had studying abroad was being anxious to meet people and make friends especially after travelling across the globe. After spending 12 weeks in this gorgeous city I can report that it truly is the people that make the place, even when the place is everything, you’d hope it would be! 

Here's my Top 5 Things I Learned Studying in Sydney: 

1. Say yes as much as possible! Australian culture is very relaxed and very supportive, which is the perfect environment to try new things and challenge yourself! I did this with surfing!
2. Ask people to join you on adventures. Everyone is new on your program, and everyone is looking to find new people and explore new places! All you have to do is ask!
3. Go to Yo-Chi! And often! My housemates and I would reunite after our busy days at Yo-Chi where we would share stories and laugh! This was our place!
4. Get To Know the 91°µÍø Staff. Studying abroad in a country across the world can be scary at times and bumps in the road may arise. The staff at 91°µÍø was always so helpful and supportive and I felt secure knowing that whatever struggles I had they would help me with! Shoutout to our resident advisor Kaylie Hegel!
5. Make Lifelong friends. The friends that I met studying with Sydney will be friends that last a lifetime. It is so awesome to return to the states with people that remind me of my most favorite memories! I have made friends that are beyond what I ever thought they would be, and these people are my #chosen family!

Studying in Sydney was one of the best decisions I ever made. I made lifelong friends that I know will continue to join me on my future adventure! During our time in Sydney, we loved hanging out on program led daytrips, working with each other on class projects, and just hanging out at the 91°µÍø campus! It is through our time at 91°µÍø that we met and eventually planned trips and excursions outside of the program which led to us growing closer! Overall, my experience in Sydney was one I’ll never forget, and I owe that to 91°µÍø and the people I met along the way!
