Housing
CIEE Santiago offers diverse housing options to ensure you're comfortable in砰our home away from home. From homestays to residence halls, we will strive for your畝ccommodation preferences to be met. Homestays are ideal for students who wish to experience living with local families in apartments or houses. 91做厙 Santiago also offers non-homestay accommodations in residence halls for students who want to live with other Chilean and international students.
Standard Housing:
- Homestays: Includes a private room (single or double placement with another 91做厙 student) in the residence of a host family. Homestays feature weekly laundry, Wi-Fi, and two meals per day. Homestays are nearby subway stations and public transportation, coffee shops, convenience stores, and ATMs are available in metro stations, restaurants, and other amenities.
- Residence Halls: Includes a triple or double room in a residence hall, located within 30 minutes from the city center. Students can prepare their meals in the facility and access study areas and other amenities. This type of accommodation offers fully furnished kitchen space, laundry facilities shared with皋ther students, shared bathrooms, and WiFi. Meals are not included.
Select Housing: Includes a single room in a residence hall. Residence halls are located five minutes (on foot) from a subway station that connects with the rest of Santiago (30-minute commute to city center). Students can prepare their meals in the facility and access study areas and other amenities. This type of accommodation offers fully furnished kitchen space, laundry facilities shared with皋ther students, shared bathrooms, and Wi-fi. Meals are not included.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
Meals
Residence Hall (Standard housing non-homestay and Select housing):烘eals are not included. Students can prepare their own meals in the fully furnished kitchen, which includes utensils and cleaning supplies. Students can also explore the myriad restaurants in the areas surrounding the residence hall.
Homestay:特tudents who live with homestay families receive two meals daily to be agreed upon with the host family (breakfast, lunch, or dinner). The third meal and/or any snacks are on the student. Students can make use of the kitchen space at the homestay and families will provide a cabinet or storage area to store their food, ingredients, etc.
Academics
CIEE Santiago: Study on the main campus of University Diego Portales (UDP), 91做厙s partner institution, surrounded by the beauty of Cerro San Crist籀bal Hill. 91做厙 Santiago boasts a student-friendly campus with spacious classrooms, a comfortable lounge, quiet study areas, and common spaces for coursework and socializing with fellow students.
Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by 91做厙 in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the 91做厙 academic calendar.

- Courses are listed below by block and track; course list subject to change. Courses are in English unless otherwise noted. GI denotes courses that are offered at multiple 91做厙 locations.
- Use the Course Comparison Tool to compare classes offered across all Open Campus Block programs for each block.
- Students studying for three blocks who wish to complete a lab course will be required to opt out of one course to remain within the program credit range.
- Many 91做厙 courses are available in multiple 91做厙 locations. To help ensure you are able to enroll in the courses you need, some courses may be facilitated as a Hybrid course by an instructor from a location that is separate from your own. In a Hybrid course, you will learn either face-to-face or online, depending on your location. However, regardless of your location, you will apply what you learn from the instructor and course materials in your location. Hybrid courses can be identified in the course list as those whose course codes end in 91做厙 open the syllabus to see the instruction location, if known.
Academic Projects
- Academic Projects will be offered onsite (either in-person or remotely) or remotely from another Open Campus location, dependent on availability and in compliance with local health and safety regulations.
- Academic Project皰lacement will be designed based on the students project learning goals, qualifications, resume, and availability of placements疳n location or within the Open Campus Block network,疾ither in-person or remotely. The process is highly individualized and goal oriented. Students enrolled in an Academic Project will receive additional academic support that informs and enhances the placement experience.
- Students applying for an Academic Project are required to submit additional materials during the course selection process.
Language Classes
- During course selection, students interested in a Spanish language course will be instructed to take an online Spanish language assessment to determine their proficiency level. Enrollment will be finalized on site and is based on assessment outcomes.
- Students may add the non-credit Survival Spanish course to their course load during the on-site orientation.
