Housing
CIEE Shanghai offers students housing in campus residence halls with a 91做厙 roommate. Campus residence halls are疹ocated in疸eighborhoods with convenient畝ccess to 91做厙 Shanghai (a 10-minute walk).
Standard Housing:涅ncludes a double room畝t the residence hall on campus, which boasts a shared kitchen,畚ommon areas, and laundry facilities盎hared with皋ther students.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
Meals
Meals are not included in Residence Hall housing. The Residence Hall features a shared kitchen in the common area, equipped with multiple induction cooktops, microwaves, fridges, and other basic appliances. Students can prepare simple in-house meals with basic cooking utensils and cleaning supplies. There are also moderately priced cafeterias available on campus and various other options in the area surrounding the campus.
Academics
CIEE Shanghai: Study on the campus of East China Normal University (ECNU), 91做厙's esteemed partner institution, 91做厙 Shanghai features a library, a student life office, and an academic advising office. Students are encouraged to use ECNU's library and outdoor facilities as needed.
Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by 91做厙 in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the 91做厙 academic calendar.

Course Notes
- Courses are listed below by block and track; course list subject to change. Courses are in English unless otherwise noted.
- Use the Course Comparison Tools to compare classes offered across all Open Campus Block programs for each block:
- Students studying for three blocks who wish to complete a lab course will be required to opt out of one course to remain within the program credit range.
- Students who wish to complete an internship are required to apply for authorization to do an internship after arriving in China. As this process takes time, only students who will be in China for all three blocks are eligible to do an internship. Internships cannot be scheduled during Block I and due to internship host reluctance to take on interns for only 6 weeks, students should expect that their internship placement will be 10 to 12 weeks and will span Block II and Block III. The student is responsible for all associated application fees (approximately US$150). Please note that recipients of internship authorization are not allowed to leave and re-enter the mainland of China without obtaining a new visa.
Academic Projects
- Each Academic Project (Internship, Service-Learning, and Directed Independent Research) placement will be designed based on the students project learning goals, qualifications, resume, and availability of placements. The process is highly individualized and goal oriented. Students enrolled in an Academic Project will receive additional academic support that informs and enhances the placement experience.
- Students applying for an Academic Project are required to submit additional materials during the course selection process.
- To qualify for participation, students must be in the location for at least one block in advance of the Academic Project to prepare for and secure placement. As a result, students participate in an Academic Project in either Block II or III.
Language Classes
- During course selection, students interested in a non-introductory Chinese language course will take a Chinese language assessment to determine their proficiency level. Enrollment will be finalized on site and is based on assessment outcomes.
